Pictures of my Home!

Well here are the pictures of my home I promised. Per Kristen Beason's request. I feel kinda of funny showing them. But I love to decorate and I have just as much passion for interior design as I do for creating all the items that I sell. I love to decorate with color if you haven't noticed. I really don't have any particular style of decorating. Like I said before, "I buy what I like and what makes me happy". I buy things from flea markets, auctions, garage sales and just about any where that I can get a deal. Some of my prized possessions are the ones that I paid the least for.

A few of my furniture pieces were made by a local craftsmen. I would find furniture I liked in a magazine and I would then take him a picture and ask him to make it. The green piece on the wall with my dishes was one of them. The bottom piece I drew out on paper and told him what I wanted and the top piece I found two old windows from a junk yard. That was what he used for the top. I like that old rough look.

One of my favorite things in my home are the cord covers I make. There is nothing more unsightly than an electrical cord. You take a yard of fabric and cut it 6 inches wide. Just sew long stripes together, and then turn inside out. Tuck in the raw ends as well. Gather and bunch all along your lamp cords or what ever cord you want to hide. It always adds that little extra touch of whimsy. People always love that idea. The thing about it is that it is so easy to make but makes a huge statement. Just make a few and nexted thing you know you will go nuts. Trust me you will want them for every lamp.

I get alot of my ideas from magazines. It is amazing how they can be a great reference tool for you. I am very lucky that my husband is very handy. He does plumbing, electrical, woodworking and really just about anything. I love to go to Home Depot and look at the woodworking books. That's were I got my ideas for the book cases in my home and columns. I drew out on paper first what I wanted. It's always good to have a plan. Just changing all the oak trim and doors to white, adding crown molding and hard wood floors made a huge impact. We have only lived in this home for a short period of time. And we have only just begun! The house is about twenty years old. It was certainly not my style when we moved in. But when we were looking to buy I could look beyond the burgandy walls in the kitchen, the baby blue carpet, blue sponged walls and the list goes on and on.

Never be afraid to take chances when it comes to decorating. I know I have. Goodness, How many people do you know have a couch in their dining room and monkey curtains in their kitchen. It sounds odd, but it works for me. Next time you go to that garage sale think outside the box. You can revamped anything that is old. Trust me and be brave! You'll see it just comes together eventually.

OH. MY. GOD. Thanks for finally putting those pictures up! Everything looks great, but as usual, it's even 100% better in person. That Halloween cabinet with your pieces is too cute.

Gotta run...I'm going to email everyone I know to take a look at your blog!

Later tater,
Kristen

Thanks Kristen, It almost didn't happen though. I was having problems with my computer today. I was on the phone with the Geek Squad again. Twice in one month! UGH! Not good! All fixed now!

It is kinda putting yourself out there. Now everyone will have an easier time picturing me eating that bag a chips late at night on the couch. He! He!

Thanks Janell and Mere!

Janell I love, love, love my JB Original! I am so proud to display it in my cabinet of treasures! I'm so glad you got to see it.

Mere, Your right about the church bench. I bought that years ago at an antique store. I had a cushion made for it to give more of a custom look. It is also one of my favorites.

Kim, Can I come for a visit?
You know I love those monkey curtains... and why shouldn't they be in your kitchen?
I think it's all the eclectic elements and the way you've lovingly put them together that makes your home very beautiful and also very welcoming!!
