Take me to the Nut House!!!!

Hey guys! Yesterday I had the day from H**l!!! If you want to know what it sounds like when someone is in the middle of a nervous breakdown just ask Dani from Ambitions Design. She was the lucky one that got to experience something like that first handed. Dani had just called right in the middle of my catastrophe. I have to apologize to her for my behavior. I should of known better than to answer the phone. But oh well to late now.

O.k. now you ask what happened. Here it goes! Some of you might know that my husband and I are in the middle of a master bath and master bedroom remodel. It has been a long road but I am getting an opportunity to practice my patient skills. My husband had just finished putting up all the dry wall and did all the sceme coating. Next step is the sanding process. I was a little concerned before he even started the sanding cause I know what that entails, "Alot of Dust". Because my husband knows how I am and that I am kind of a neat freak when it comes to stuff like that, he thought he would rent a commercial sander from Home Depot. This type of sander had a vacuum attached to the hose. I thought this is perfect. It will cut down on all the dust. YEAH!

So my hubby hooked up the machine, got his trusty goggles, mask and eye protection on. I thought well I am going to leave and go downstairs. I still thought even though it had a vacuum on it that it would still make some dust and I didn't want to deal with that. I am so glad he thought of shutting all the doors to all the bedrooms and bathroom. Next he added a towel just below the door just in case any dust decided to escape. (Ha! Ha! That didn't help!) I heard him turn on and off the machine a couple of times. I then started to get into some crafting that I had been working on. About 45 minutes later I thought I would go and check on the progress. When I opened the basement door, my heart sank. I knew what happened. There was a cloud, and I mean cloud of dust all over the main floor. It was like it was snowing but without the flakes. I ran upstairs and my husband in a paniced voice said don't open the door. I asked him what happened. Well he proceeded to tell me in not so many choice words that the sander wasn't working properly and he didn't know it until now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are pictures of my bedroom. Thank goodness for plastic. That plastic was clear.

This is when I started to have my mini breakdown. I went down stairs and as I started to let the dust settle I finally realized what I had in store for myself and him to for that matter. I am the type of person that likes alot of stuff in her home. I started to walk around the house and everywhere and I mean everywhere there was dust. I immediately started to clean and I started to cry. I have a chronic neck problem and early stages of carpel tunnel. I knew that this wasn't going to be good.

These are pictures of the main floor. You can see the dust on my dining room table and you can even see exactly where the rug was sitting on top. Now look at the hardwood floors. The dust was so thick you could see my footprints! Just above that is my dust angel I tried to make. It's there but you can't see it very clearly.

JUST IMAGINE! LOOK AROUND YOUR HOUSE. NOW EVERYTHING YOU SEE NEEDS EITHER WIPED OFF, DUSTED OR VACUUMED AND I TRULY MEAN EVERYTHING, "HELPME"!!!!
A PICTURE OF MY NICE CLEAN GREAT ROOM AND WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE THE NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in the middle of my cleaning frenzy the phone rang. It was Dani! I being as upset as I was should not of answered the phone! But for some reason I did. I know I wasn't very friendly. The person on the other end said, "May I speak to Kim please". I said, "WHO IS IT!" Poor Dani! I am so sorry you got stuck in the middle of this mess. I think we were both caught off guard. But believe it or not she calmed my nerves.

So just remember never answer the phone in the middle of a mini breakdown. You never know who just might be calling at that point and time.
This whole experience has inspired my next creation. It will be a papier mache house. I will be calling it something like, "The Haunted NUT House." It takes a nut case to be able to think of something like this. I hope to get cracking on this soon. But I have more dust to clean up. I think I will have dust in my teeth for months.

Oh Kim, you aren't kidding it's not just dusty... it's TRAGIC!!!
I'm not sure I would have written "help me", something a little more foul perhaps!

I've been there and done that, so I definitely feel your pain!

Think you could both use a nice evening out after all the dust settles. (very bad pun intended)

BIG Hugs, Lori

You goofy girl! Trust me you were not as bad as you seem to think you were! You were more than fine, I SWEAR!!! These things happen and someday (hopefully soon) you will laugh over it. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Maybe me calling at that moment kept you from possibly choking your husband or hanging yourself!!LOL

I hope your abode is on the mend and just call me anytime.

Oh you poor thing! When I read the first part, I jumped down to your picture to see what happened before reading the rest. At first I thought your home had been vandalized! I'm so sorry for you...dust like that is just a pure nightmare. Take it easy on cleaning it up, or maybe convince hubby to bring in some Merry Maids for the occasion? You'll make it through the nut house though, anyone who could have enough of a sense of humor to make a dust angel can make it through anything! Wish the wand of my vacuum was long enough that I could help! Hugs!

Dani, You are so sweet. I think you are truly being kind. I can only imagine what you thought about me. "This girl has lost her mind" and I am so sorry I called"!!!!! I am so thankful you can see beyond my crazyness.

I will call you for sure this week. I'm sure I will be more calm by then. He He!!!

Hey Mere, It's funny what you said about my house. I think if someone came in and vandalized my house it would of been way easy to deal with than what happened to me. I would just have to put everything back and all said and done. But to have to wipe off every little knook and cranny. I added a picture of what my house looked like before. I wasn't sure if you saw some of my olders posts. Now just imagine having to dust all of that and that is just one small side of the house.

I wish I would of thought of Merry Maids. It would of been much simpler. At that point my brain had one task in mind and that was to clean and clean fast.

Thanks for being so sweet! If dust was worth money I would be a millionair right now!!!!

Hi Kim :)

I am sooooo sorry this happened to you. When we redid the stairs, there was no way to block the dust from going everywhere and it was pure hell. I hope hubby to you out after that.

Thank you for your sweet words about my house situation.

I think you need a (((hug))), but don't hit me! LOL

Hi Rue, Thanks for stopping by. Sounds like you can relate. I don't wish for anyone to have to go through something like this.

Good luck with the House situation. Just go with your gut!!!

Hi Jenn! I truly did freak out. Just ask poor Dani about it.

You certainly wouldn't of wanted to deal with something like this for sure. I am almost cleaned up. But the scary part is he is still not done sanding. He just added another layer of dry wall compound. HELP!! He He!!

Kim Hardt Originals said...

Hi Suz, The dust is starting to settle. No pun intended as Lori stated. I was just telling Jenn that we are just in the beginning stages of the sanding but we sure learned alot about this whole mess.

Thanks for the post. I don't think I will be going postal yet!

OMG Kim, what a nightmare. I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I would have freaked out too!!! Your beautiful home is still beautiful, so try not to get too overwhelmed. You better pack your bags and LIVE in that bathroom when it's complete. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end. Hope Chuck is OK and didn't breathe in too much of that dust.

Hey Kristen, It seems like a lifetime when Chuckles started this project. I can't wait for it to be finished. I guess it could of been worse. If that is possible.

Oh well "blank" happens and it sure happened to me this past weekend. I think someone is testing me. I'm not sure for what but I better get a good grade. I don't want to have to take this test over again.

Reminds me when my husband HAD to put in new oak flooring in the front entryway two days before a visit from my mother, and HAD to sand it that night...there was no vacuum on the sander and I had already cleaned & I mean really cleaned....you know, I think you actually have me beat on this one!!!

Just think how wonderful it will all be when the project is done and you can enjoy it!!

Thank you for your sweet comment Kim. I do appreciate them so much.

Sounds like your crisis is over...at least for the time being. Going through a remodel is enough to tear your hair out. And what a great way to turn it around and create a spooky nut house! I can't wait to see it. Hang in there. Hugs to you...Iva

PS - I'll be adding you to my blog, as I am a fan of yours.

You may have lost your mind but not your sense of humor. You will look back on this someday in the far, far, really far future and laugh. From one neat freak to another, I feel your pain. Keep those windows open.

Laurie, Iva, Chris and Melissa, Thanks for your posts. Believe it or not they do help. I truly was on the edge. But today my wonderful hubby was up in the bedroom today with a hand held sanding just sanding away in the bedroom again. I asked him what are you doing. He told me that he hadn't even touch the bedroom walls. All that dust was just from the bathroom. Yikes!!! Help me!!!!

In bright side....there WILL be a day that you'll look back and laugh at it all!

Hi Marie, I know what you mean but I haven't started to giggle yet. Maybe when all said and done.
He he!!
